In which denominations are prize bonds available?

Presently, the Govt. of Bangladesh, in order to encourage savings, is offering prize bonds with face value of Tk.100 each.

Who are eligible to buy a bond and how many bonds can they buy?

Any Bangladeshi, including children, can buy any number of bonds.

Which bond is eligible for draw?

Only that prize bond whose date of issuance is at least 30 days prior to the draw date is eligible for draw.

Where can I purchase and sell prize bonds?

You can purchase and sell prize bonds at Bangladesh Bank, branch of any bank or post office.

How can I claim the Prize?

To claim the prize you need to fill up an application form available at any bank or post office. You should address it to the General Manager of the respective branch in the Bangladesh Bank (in case Bangladesh Bank isn't there in town, principal branch of Sonali Bank). On submission you will be issued a receipt against the winning bond which is kept back. You have to wait for about 30 days after which you will be given the prize money along with Tk.100 as the bond value as it is kept back.

What is the valid time period for claiming a particular prize after a draw?

2 Years (i.e. last 8 draw).

When are the draws held?

The draws take place every three months. They are on 31st January, 30th April, 31st July, and 31st October each year at around 4 PM on the day or the next business day following if the day happens to be a holiday.

Is there any Income Tax payable on prizes?

Yes, 20% of the prize amount is deducted as Income Tax at source according to the Income Tax Act, 1984 (Rule 55) applicable since July 1, 1999.

How many series are there?

Currently there are 81 series, each having bonds numbered from 0000001 to 1000000.

What is the prize structure?

For each series there are the following prizes:

Therefore, there will be 81 first and second prizes, 162 (=81x2) third and fourth prizes and 3,240 (=81x40) fifth prizes, totaling to 3,726 prizes in all per draw.

When was the last draw held?

The last, 117th draw, was held on Oct 31, 2024.

When is the next draw?

The next draw is on next 31st January, 30th April, 31st July, or 31st October, whichever comes first.

How do they work?

Prize Bonds are purchased in units of Tk.100. There is a minimum purchase of 1 unit. Each eligible Prize Bond is entered into a quarterly draw with prizes ranging between Tk.10,000 up to the top prize of Tk.600,000.

I have Prize Bonds for many years, what has happened to them?

Your Prize Bonds are included in every draw until you cash them in. All Prize Bonds, regardless of how old they are, stand an equal chance, relevant to the unit value, of winning a prize in every draw. You may check them in our website. There's always a possibility of winning prizes in draws already held. Quite a few of our members actually did win in draws held earlier.

How do I know if I've won a prize?

Bangladesh Bank does NOT have a system of informing the prize winners. We offer our registered users a free service by informing them of their prize by mail and/or telephone.

How many can I buy?

Prize Bonds are purchased with a minimum unit of Tk.100. There's no upper limit.

How do I cash in my Prize Bonds?

Prize Bonds can be cashed in at any time from any bank or post office.
